Maya responded:

“I have a valid reservation.”

Mike looked toward management.

Richard said:

“We have declined service.”

Mike turned back to Maya.

“Ma’am, private businesses can ask someone to leave. I’m going to ask you to step outside.”

Maya nodded.

“If I step outside voluntarily, will you put your hands on me?”

Mike seemed surprised.

“Not if you leave voluntarily.”

“Good.”

Carlos Santos looked uneasy.

Maya noticed his name badge.

“How long have you worked here, Officer Santos?”

Carlos blinked.

“Security officer, ma’am. Six months.”

Richard snapped:

“Don’t engage with her.”

Carlos’s jaw tightened.

Maya looked at him.

“Do you believe I’ve threatened anyone?”

He hesitated.

“No.”

“Damaged anything?”

“No.”

“Raised my voice?”

“No.”

Mike glanced at him.

Richard interrupted.

“That’s irrelevant. She has been asked to leave.”

Maya checked her watch.

7:56.

“Four minutes.”

Brittany threw up her hands.

“This is insane.”

“Why are we even entertaining her?”

“Just drag her out.”

Carlos Santos looked at Brittany.

Then at Maya.

Something in his expression changed.

Mike spoke quietly.

“Let’s keep everybody calm.”

Richard stepped closer.

“No.”

“I want her removed now.”

“Use whatever force is necessary.”

The restaurant reacted.

Several people gasped.

Zara’s viewers jumped past eighteen hundred.

Her comments blurred.

She’s standing there peacefully.

This is insane.

Who owns this place?

Someone screen-record this.

Maya did not argue.

She stepped backward.

Hands visible.

“I will wait outside.”

Richard’s expression showed relief.

“Good.”

She walked toward the door.

As she reached it, Richard called after her:

“And don’t come back.”

Maya stopped.

He added, loud enough for every phone:

“This restaurant doesn’t serve people like you.”

For the first time that evening, Maya smiled fully.

Not because it was funny.

Because Richard had finally made the hidden thing explicit.

She turned.

“Mr. Whitmore.”

He stared.

“You’re absolutely right.”

His eyebrows rose.

“After tonight, this restaurant will never serve people like me again.”

Then Maya stepped onto the sidewalk.

The doors closed behind her.

Inside, Brittany exhaled.

Derek shook his head.

Richard straightened his jacket as though a difficult service issue had been resolved.

Brittany actually lifted a hand toward Derek.

He slapped it lightly.

A small celebratory high-five.

Zara caught that too.

Outside, Maya stood beneath the awning.

The Escalade doors opened.

James Morrison stepped out carrying a leather portfolio.

David Lin followed.

James looked from Maya to the restaurant.

“What happened?”

“Later.”

“You okay?”

“Yes.”

“That answer is doing a lot of work.”

Maya held out her hand.

“Status?”

James gave her the portfolio.

“Escrow released at 8:01.”

“The seller acknowledged receipt.”

“Wire confirmation is in.”

“Asset transfer effective once the final filing timestamp posts.”

David checked his phone.

“Secretary of State acknowledgment just came through.”

“8:03.”
