The young guard lowered his gaze, but the words had already left him changed. He had been asked what he believed his job meant, and he could not pretend the answer was simply obedience.

Mike stepped forward. "Ma'am, please come with us."

Maya moved one foot toward the door.

"I'm willing to leave," she said. "But I want the managers to understand that they have not corrected the booking, explained the refusal, or apologized for tearing up my confirmation."

Brittany threw up her hands. "Why are we still discussing this? Just drag her out already."

Someone near the bar said, "Oh, come on." Another guest rose from his seat and walked toward the entrance, holding his phone in full view.

Zara's live broadcast climbed past eighteen hundred viewers. The audience had stopped debating whether the confrontation was a misunderstanding. They were repeating what they had seen: a confirmed reservation, a torn document, coded insults, and a threat of force against a woman who had remained calm.

Maya glanced at her watch: 8:07 p.m.

Three minutes.

Her phone rang again. This time she answered.

"Maya speaking."

James Morrison's voice was careful and precise. "The seller's execution packet is complete. The lender has accepted the release instructions. We're authorized to finalize."

"Any unresolved liabilities?"

"Nothing beyond the reserves we discussed. The transfer will close under the agreed procedure."

"Proceed."

"Are you safe?"

Maya looked at the two guards and the managers.

"For the moment. Please bring the transition notices."

"We're almost there."

The call ended. Maya slid the phone into her handbag.

Richard gave a laugh that sounded performative even to him. "What was that supposed to be?"

"A business call."

"I heard something about a transaction."

"You did."

Derek smirked. "What are you going to buy, lady? The whole restaurant?"

Maya said nothing.

The smirk widened.

"Maybe a Happy Meal," Richard added, and Brittany laughed too quickly, delighted to belong to the winning side.

Luis, standing beside the service door, stared at the floor. The joke had the rhythm of something people repeated when they were confident no one would challenge them. Maria touched his sleeve.

"Remember exactly what was said," she whispered.

"I will."

Mike brought a hand toward his radio. "Final warning. We will escort you off the property. If you return after being directed to leave, management may ask police to respond."

Maya turned to him fully. "I have already agreed to go. There is no need to touch me."

Mike hesitated. The certainty he had brought into the room began to seem less useful under the attention of so many cameras.

"Then please walk."

Maya moved toward the doors. Carlos stepped aside to clear her path. His face carried an apology he did not know how to express.

At the threshold, Richard called after her.

"And don't come back. Meridian Prime doesn't serve people like you."

The entire room heard him.

Zara's phone captured the manager's face as he said it. So did the businessman at table eight and a young woman near the bar. On the restaurant's own security system, a camera above the entrance recorded Richard pointing toward the street.
