Frank and Daisy have a habit of finding each other whenever one of them disappears from sight.

Frank is a 14-year-old Hound mix.

Daisy is an 11-year-old Golden Retriever mix.

Frank is the older dog.

He moves slowly now.

He enjoys naps more than long walks.

Daisy still has more energy.

She likes exploring the yard and sniffing every interesting corner.

But despite their different personalities, they rarely stay far apart for long.

They have developed a comfortable routine at the shelter.

In the morning, they go outside together.

Frank walks slowly.

Daisy stays nearby.

Sometimes she moves ahead.

Then she turns around.

Frank is usually still coming.

She waits.

He catches up.

Then they continue.

In the afternoon, Frank often finds a quiet place to rest.

Daisy may wander around for a while.

But eventually she returns.

She lies near him.

Sometimes she rests her head beside his paws.

Then they both fall asleep.

The staff became especially aware of their connection one morning when Daisy was taken into the medical room for a routine checkup.

Frank watched her leave.

At first, he returned to his kennel.

He lay down.

Then he got back up.

He walked toward the hallway.

The medical room was nearby.

Frank sat outside the door.

He waited.

A staff member tried to encourage him to return to his bed.

Frank walked a few steps.

Then turned around.

He went back to the door.

He didn't bark.

He didn't scratch.

He simply sat.

Every time the medical room door opened, Frank lifted his head.

Someone walked out.

Not Daisy.

Frank lowered his head again.

Then he waited.

Nearly an hour passed.

Finally, Daisy came through the doorway.

Frank immediately stood.

Daisy saw him.

Her tail began wagging.

Frank walked toward her.

They stopped nose to nose.

Daisy gently touched his face.

Frank's tail moved slowly.

Then he turned toward the kennel.

Daisy followed.

Once they returned, both dogs went straight to their bed.

Frank lay down.

Daisy settled beside him.

It was as if the morning had simply returned to normal.

But the staff knew something important had happened.

Frank had waited.

And Daisy had come back.

Their relationship is built around moments like that.

When one leaves, the other notices.

When one returns, the other is there.

When one rests, the other stays nearby.

They have learned each other's routines so well that they seem to know what the other one is doing without needing to see them.

Frank is particularly attached to his afternoon naps.

After lunch, he often finds the quietest corner of the kennel.

Daisy usually stays nearby.

She may play with a toy for a few minutes.

Then she returns.

Frank opens one eye.

He sees her.

Then he goes back to sleep.

Daisy settles down.
