"What did she say?"
"She asked why she'd been stopped and whether she was being detained."
"Did she threaten to harm you?"
"Not in those exact words."
"Did she threaten anybody else?"
"No."
"Did she use an obscenity?"
Callahan hesitated. "I don't remember."
James glanced down at the legal pad. "Did you hear her say that her registration was in the glove compartment and ask whether she could retrieve it slowly?"
"I don't recall her exact wording."
"But your report says she made an erratic movement toward that compartment."
"Yes."
"Before or after she asked permission?"
Callahan's jaw tightened. "Things happened quickly."
"They did. That's why the recording is important."
