Workers hesitated again.

Marissa raised her voice.

“Continue unloading.”

That was when Deputy Morgan arrived.

The timing was almost perfect.

One patrol car.

Then Sergeant Mason Greer in an unmarked SUV.

Mason had been called after the first deputy reviewed Wade’s overnight report and learned twenty-two vehicles had been removed under questionable paperwork.

Marissa saw them and visibly relaxed.

She walked quickly toward the deputies.

“Thank God.”

Mason stepped out.

“What’s happening?”

“This man is obstructing an authorized association enforcement action.”

Wade said nothing.

Marissa continued.

“He is operating an illegal commercial storage facility adjacent to our residential community. The hazardous vehicles were removed under lawful authority, and now he is interfering with remediation.”

Mason looked toward Wade.

“Your property?”

“Yes.”

“Proof?”

“Office.”

Marissa interrupted.

“The HOA has jurisdiction.”

Mason held up one hand.

“I’ll get to that.”

Wade returned with deed copies.

Survey.

County tax map.

Business permits.

Rebecca had trained him well.

Mason compared parcel numbers.

Blackridge boundary.

Hollister parcel.

No overlap.

Marissa handed him HOA maps.

Mason looked.

“These are association maps.”

“They establish our enforcement area.”

“They stop there.”

He pointed.

Wade’s property sat outside.

Marissa changed direction.

“There are emergency nuisance powers.”

“County?”

“Yes.”

“Show me the order.”

She produced the abatement notice.

Mason read it.

Then called dispatch.

Case number.

No result.

He photographed the document.

“Who issued this?”

“It was provided through counsel.”

“Which counsel?”

Marissa named a firm.

“Who signed it?”

She pointed to the name.

Mason called again.

No county employee by that name.

His face changed.

Not dramatically.

Professional suspicion.

He asked Wade:

“Did you tell these people to leave this morning?”

“Yes.”

“Recorded?”

“Yes.”

“Show me.”

Wade played the footage.

His own voice:

Every Blackridge employee and contractor on this property is being instructed to stop work and leave immediately.

Marissa:

Continue.

Then:

You do not have permission to remain.

Marissa:

No.

Mason watched twice.

Then looked at Marissa.

“Until property authority is clarified, your personnel need to stop work.”

“This is outrageous.”

“Stop work.”

Marissa folded her arms.

“You are allowing him to obstruct lawful operations.”

“I’m preventing escalation while we verify a document that currently does not appear in county records.”

Mason turned to the Blackridge workers.

“Everybody pause.”

They did.

Wade said:

“I want the unauthorized vehicles removed from my property.”

Marissa laughed.

“There it is. Retaliation.”

Mason looked at Wade.

“You have a towing company here?”

“Staged on the road.”

“Do they meet county private-lot requirements?”

“Yes.”

Rebecca joined by speakerphone.

She identified herself.

Confirmed signage.

Confirmed Wade’s ownership.

Confirmed written and recorded withdrawal of consent.

Mason was careful.
