“Are you all insane?” Steven suddenly shouted, his voice sharp and echoing through the large room. Everyone jumped and looked at him in fear. His gaze swept across each person as if forcing them to face the fear and anger bubbling inside him. Elijah, still standing firm amid the emotional storm, slowly turned his calm and resolute gaze toward Steven.
He knew that any careless word or movement could now lead to serious consequences. Yet he showed no sign of wavering. His eyes held not only determination but also the composure of someone who had weathered countless storms. “Mr. Miller,” Elijah said slowly, loud enough for everyone to hear, “you don’t need to do this.”
“I’m not here to cause trouble or harm anyone. I just want the truth to come to light and justice returned to me and to all those who have been treated unfairly like I was.” Elijah’s sincerity did nothing to calm Steven. On the contrary, Steven saw the old man’s composure as a direct challenge to the power he was trying to maintain. Without further thought, Steven suddenly drew his gun from the holster.
The motion was abrupt and filled with urgency. The weapon came halfway up, enough to make the threat unmistakable. “I told you, old man, get out of here right now!” Steven shouted, his voice cracking with anger and tension. His hand trembled, but the gun was still aimed toward Elijah.
Immediately the room fell into quiet panic. Everyone in the lobby held their breath, eyes fixed on the weapon in Steven’s hand. Some customers began to move subtly toward the exit, trying to distance themselves from danger. No one dared speak or make a sudden movement because they all understood that even a small mistake could cause the situation to spiral out of control.
James Temp stood beside Elijah, his heart pounding as fear and responsibility collided inside him. He knew he had to do something to stop the potential disaster unfolding before them. But he also knew that Steven, in his current state, might not listen to reason, and one wrong move could make everything worse. “Steven, calm down,” James finally said, his voice shaking but firm enough to carry.
He took a small step forward, one hand extended in a calming gesture. “Put the gun down. This doesn’t need to go any further. I understand how you’re feeling, but trust me, this isn’t the way to resolve it.” Steven seemed barely able to hear him anymore.
His eyes were full of panic and fury, his hand gripping the weapon as if it were the last shred of control he had left. The fact that he was losing control only made him more dangerous.
