Angela looked at him.

“You get five minutes.”

Sully checked an imaginary watch.

“Thought you people believed in family reunification.”

Angela stared.

Sully immediately nodded.

“Five minutes.”

He entered.

Put the bag on the table.

“Burritos.”

Leo looked at the hospital tray.

“They fed me.”

“I saw that.”

“Then why burritos?”

“Hospital food looks sad.”

Leo opened the bag anyway.

The smell nearly made him dizzy.

Sully sat.

“How are the ribs?”

“Healing.”

“Good.”

“Shoulder?”

“Doctor stitched it.”

“So you went to a doctor.”

“Under protest.”

Leo smiled.

They ate in silence for a minute.

Then Leo asked:

“Where are the bikes?”

“Most headed Phoenix.”

“All 247?”

“Some split toward California.”

“Did they really come because of me?”

Sully sighed.

“Kid.”

“What?”

“Motorcycle riders are always looking for excuses to ride.”

“That’s not an answer.”

“No.”

Sully rubbed his beard.

“I told some people.”

“What?”

“That I found a runaway mechanic in the desert.”

“I’m not a runaway mechanic.”

“You literally ran away and fixed a motorcycle.”

Leo could not argue.

Sully continued.

“People brought water.”

“Why?”

“Because I asked.”

“Food?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Same reason.”

Leo stared.
