Alana reached into her bag for her phone. She found the booking email, opened the payment confirmation, and enlarged the itinerary so the names, flight number, seats, and purchase date could all be read without difficulty. "Here," she said, holding it out to Mark. "This was issued directly by Global Air, paid for with our card, and confirmed eight weeks ago. You are welcome to ask a gate agent to check it against the original reservation."

Mark examined the screen briefly. The details matched what was printed on the boarding passes. He should have apologized, wished them a pleasant anniversary, and walked away. Instead, he regarded the proof as an obstacle to be overcome, because admitting an error in front of Karen and nearby passengers now felt more dangerous to him than prolonging the confrontation. He claimed the email might have been altered or linked to an unauthorized purchase.

Daniel placed his champagne flute on the table and pushed it gently away from the edge. "Please explain the basis for accusing us of using someone else's payment information," he said. Mark leaned closer, his voice dropping.

"People find ways around the rules. I've worked in this industry for twenty-five years." Daniel nodded once. "Experience can help you recognize a real problem. It does not excuse inventing one."

A few rows behind them, another attendant named Elena Vega had stopped arranging blankets. She had heard enough to know that the interaction was moving outside the procedure she had been taught. Her training required escalation of genuine security concerns, but it did not permit a crew member to manufacture uncertainty about a verified reservation merely because a passenger seemed out of place. She took a step toward Mark, intending to suggest that he contact the gate. He held up a hand without turning around, silencing her before she spoke.

Karen gave a small, dismissive laugh. "We can't have people crowding into the premium cabin because they think they're entitled to everything," she said. "This isn't the gate line." Her language was indirect enough that she might later try to explain it away, but her expression told everyone within earshot what she meant. Daniel felt Alana's hand settle on his forearm beneath the privacy divider. She was asking him without words to stay with her in the moment, not to let strangers force him into a performance of anger.

He covered her hand with his. "Mr. Jensen, I have provided everything you requested," he said.

"Your airline possesses a complete electronic record of our purchase. If you continue accusing us without checking that record, you will have to explain why." Mark straightened, furious at being challenged in front of his cabin. He announced that he would involve the captain.

Daniel did not try to stop him. "Then tell the captain exactly what happened," he answered.
