The passing truck filled the speakers. When it faded, Shaw's voice returned: "No more records left where she can see them. Understand?"

The last word seemed to hang in the open air after Danielle stopped the recording.

Shaw's complexion changed. He glanced at the SUV that had stood beside his patrol sedan throughout the morning, then back at the laptop. His expression suggested he was replaying every conversation he had held near it and trying to remember how loudly he had spoken.

"That audio is out of context," he said.

"Then please provide the context," Danielle answered. "What did you intend to clear from the cabinet?"

"I was speaking about scene safety and evidence preservation. The word clear has several meanings."

"You said I was a real federal agent, yet you continued telling everyone that my identity was in dispute."

"I was speculating."

"You instructed Voss to keep me away from a system we were legally authorized to inspect."

"I was managing my officer."

Torres nodded slightly to another agent. Danielle recognized the signal: the team had reviewed the accumulated evidence and was preparing to move if the men attempted to leave. The prosecutor had been consulted. The arrest decision would not hinge on whether Shaw confessed in the parking lot.

Danielle switched to the independent transaction logs. She displayed the August fifteenth entry, the assigned Army vehicle, and the unit's authenticated location records. Navarro confirmed that the truck had not been at the station. Danielle then displayed a still from Leah's private camera showing Voss opening the control cabinet and a commercial tanker occupying the service lane at the time of the false purchase.

"This is not one unusual receipt," Danielle said. "We have multiple nights, repeated system overrides, unauthorized hardware, independent server records, and a transport company whose paperwork identifies a private destination for the fuel. We have financial transfers under review linking the destination company to a business associated with your family, Captain. We have evidence that Ms. Grant was threatened after reporting the same activity."

Shaw opened his mouth and closed it. He was looking not at Danielle but at Torres, who had begun writing in her notebook.

"An associated business isn't proof of my involvement," Shaw said.

"Correct. That's why we're tracing the money and reviewing your actions."

"You have no right to accuse me based on my brother-in-law's company."

"I have the right to investigate a documented financial link. You're entitled to contest the evidence."

Voss stared at the projected still of the tanker. He looked abruptly toward Shaw. "You told me those records wouldn't connect to the company."

Silence fell around the vehicle.

Shaw turned. "Nolan, don't say another word."

"You said the charges were going through a vendor reconciliation. You said there wasn't any way to match the deliveries back to our unit."

"Officer, stop talking."

"You told me it was legal because it was surplus fuel."
