Search teams began executing the authorized warrants.

Behind Mallory's office, they found a locked storage room.

Inside were boxes.

Seizure forms.

Property keys.

Lists of target homes.

Shell-company records.

Pre-signed enforcement paperwork.

Multiple versions of board minutes.

And a separate burner phone later tied through lawful forensic analysis to communications with Owen Pike.

Then an investigator carried out one gray archive box.

A label was taped across the lid.

ROARK.

Caleb stared.

The box contained photographs of him leaving work.

His truck.

His house.

His grocery store.

His usual morning route.

Notes estimating when he was home.

A diagram of the downstairs floor.

The safe location.

His overtime schedule.

His investigative assignment history.

A line written in Mallory's handwriting:

REMOVE CREDIBILITY BEFORE PROPERTY ACTION.

Tessa looked at him.

For once, Caleb had nothing to say.

Mallory stood across the room.

Her face was empty.

Caleb closed the box.

“Was all this necessary?”

Mallory's eyes shifted to him.

“You were interfering.”

“With theft?”

“With the association.”

“You believe those are the same thing?”

“You have no idea what it takes to maintain property values in a community like this.”

Caleb stared.

“There it is.”

“What?”

“The story you tell yourself.”

Mallory's voice sharpened.

“People move here because standards matter.”

“Standards didn't fund your shell companies.”

“You don't understand what I built.”

“I understand it well enough.”

Mallory looked around the clubhouse.

Residents watched.

Many had once deferred to her automatically.

Now nobody moved to defend her.

For the first time in years, Mallory Whitcomb stood in a room full of Briar Hollow homeowners and possessed no social authority beyond the chair she happened to be standing behind.

An investigator approached Elliott.

“Pike sent a message.”

Caleb turned.

The intercepted burner communication read:

MEET ME WHERE THIS STARTED.

Tessa looked at Caleb.

“Vale.”

He nodded.

Mallory was taken into custody under the existing warrant package while another team moved toward Vale Asset Recovery.

Caleb went with them only after Elliott confirmed his role and made sure independent supervisors controlled the operation.

By the time they reached the warehouse, Owen Pike was already there.

So was Preston Vale.

The two men were arguing near an office at the back.

Pike had removed an electronic storage device from a secured system.

Vale was furious.

“You told me this was protected,” Preston said.

Pike shoved papers into a bag.

“It was.”

“Six trucks are gone.”

“Then we're finished.”

“You said Mallory had control.”

“Mallory has no control.”

Caleb heard the argument through the team positioned outside.

Officers sealed every exit before announcing themselves.

There was no dramatic gunfight.

No reckless chase.

Pike looked toward the rear door.

An officer already stood there.

He turned toward the loading bay.

Blocked.

He finally faced Caleb.

“You.”

Caleb stepped forward only after the scene was secure.

Pike laughed bitterly.
