Monday morning I opened Copper & Bloom earlier than usual. My office manager, Jenna Hale, had already made coffee and organized the week's booking calendar. She was twenty-seven, had worked for me since we were two people sharing a rented desk, and knew enough about the company to notice when a month of good invoices concealed a serious cash-flow problem. She looked at me with concern and asked whether I wanted to talk.

"Not about the video," I said. "Not yet. But I need to tell you something about Ryan's access to our files."

She closed the door. I explained the consulting agreement and the possibility that some client information had been shared beyond the scope I intended. Jenna didn't begin by asking about my marriage. She asked which folders Ryan could access, which events were affected, and whether our clients had been notified. Her questions were so specific that I realized she'd been worrying about the consequences long before I'd accepted that there might be any.

"I asked him twice why he wanted our vendor lists," she said. "He told me you knew all about it. I thought you did."

"I signed the authorization," I admitted. "I didn't understand what he was using it for."

She sat very still. "Claire, those people trust us with their events, their addresses, and their payment schedules. Some of them are charities. We can't just assume nothing happened because nobody has complained yet."

I had built the company on the idea that clients would trust me with important days. Hearing Jenna speak that word made my throat tighten. I asked her to help gather the records for an independent technology review, and she agreed on the condition that we notify affected clients if the review found an exposure. I told her she was right. It was a smaller admission than the one I'd made in Priya's office, but it required the same unfamiliar act of letting the truth be larger than my pride.

The video from the rooftop spread faster than I expected. It began as a seventeen-second clip showing me tell Ethan that Ryan made me feel alive, then Ryan ordering him to walk away. In the first version I saw, the recording ended before Ethan spoke. I looked cruel and triumphant, Ethan looked stunned, and Ryan looked delighted. There was no context in which I could watch that clip and honestly claim I had been misunderstood.

Another recording surfaced later, showing Ethan removing his ring and calmly saying he had already left. The two clips became a story people argued about on social media. Strangers called me heartless, reckless, brave, trapped, and a dozen other things that belonged more to their own experiences than to mine. Some defended me because they assumed Ethan must have been controlling. Others wished terrible things on me because they recognized the humiliation on his face.
