Lucas noticed.
He almost told her to close it.
Then decided he wanted her to be able to hear instructions.
Miller called through the storage door.
“Whoever is in there, we know you’re there.”
Silence.
“No one needs to get hurt.”
Nothing.
“Police are on the way.”
Something scraped.
Jojo muttered, “That got his attention.”
The inner handle moved.
Once.
Then stopped.
Lucas’s pulse tightened.
Miller stepped to the side of the doorway rather than directly in front.
“Come out empty-handed.”
No answer.
Thirty seconds passed.
Then the handle turned.
Slowly.
The door opened two inches.
A hand appeared.
Empty.
Then another.
A man stepped into view.
Gray work coveralls.
Dark hood.
Worn sneakers.
