“Her laptop overheated every forty minutes.”

Laughter moved gently through the room.

“She had been told her market was too narrow.”

Keisha was crying now.

“She had been told low-income clinics were not attractive customers.”

Willa’s voice sharpened.

“She had been told patients with limited resources were a mission, not a market.”

She paused.

“She disagreed.”

The large screen behind Willa illuminated.

CLEARPATH HEALTH.

“Today, ClearPath has closed a twelve-million-dollar Series A.”

Applause began.

“Its platform has supported affordable screenings for more than one hundred thousand patients.”

The applause grew.

“And this year, the summit’s Breakthrough Founder Award goes to Keisha Odom.”

Willa extended her hand.

“Keisha, come up here.”

Keisha stood.

For half a second, she could not move.

The woman beside her hugged her first.

Then Keisha walked toward the aisle.

She wore a blazer slightly too large through the shoulders.

The kind young founders buy before they can comfortably afford tailoring.

Willa noticed.

Of course she did.

Keisha climbed the stage steps.

When she reached the podium, her hands were shaking.

Willa took both.

Then pulled her into a hug.

“You belong here,” Willa whispered.

Keisha laughed through tears.

“So do you.”

Willa closed her eyes briefly.

One year earlier, she had sat twelve feet from Garrett Sinclair and been told that nothing about her looked like investment.

Now she stood beside a twenty-six-year-old founder whose company was reaching patients the traditional market had underestimated.
