Clare returned with a small blue packet. She placed it on Maya's tray table with the stiff gesture of someone fulfilling an obligation she resented. Maya looked at the package and felt her hope evaporate. It was a packet of peanuts. The allergen information was printed clearly on the front, and the warning was repeated near the bottom.

Lena stared at it for a full second before speaking. "She told you she's allergic to peanuts."

"Then she doesn't have to eat them," Clare replied. The words came so casually that the cabin seemed to hesitate before understanding them. Margaret made a small sound of disbelief. Samuel leaned into the aisle, looking at the packet as if it might change when he blinked. David lifted his phone and filmed the blue package beside Maya's printed confirmation email.

Maya placed one finger beside the allergen label and spoke quietly into her own recording. "After being told that I have a confirmed medical meal and a peanut allergy, Crestline Airways has offered me peanuts."

Lena asked again for juice. Clare said she would see what was available, then turned toward Victoria when the woman's call button sounded. "Mrs. Langford?" she asked in an instantly softer voice.

Victoria smiled, apparently untroubled by the sight of Maya struggling to remain steady. "Another coffee, please. And something sweet. All this unpleasantness has given me a headache." Lena looked from one woman to the other as though she could scarcely believe the contrast.

Clare prepared Victoria's coffee and returned with cookies and a small carton of orange juice. Lena saw the carton and leaned forward. "Could you please give that juice to Maya?"

Clare paused, glanced toward Ethan, and handed it to Victoria instead. "For your headache, Mrs. Langford," she said. The carton remained unopened beside Victoria's coffee. In 1B, Maya watched it with a tired expression that seemed to drain the strength from Samuel's face.

"Ma'am," Samuel said, "give her the juice." Victoria stared at him. "Sit down." He stayed in his seat, but his voice remained clear.

"Give her the juice. You don't need it. She does."

Ethan stepped toward him. "Sir, I need you to stop interfering." Samuel looked at the supervisor and said, "I spent forty years teaching children what courage looked like. I'd be ashamed to forget it because somebody told me to sit quietly."

Maya reached toward Samuel's arm from her seat. "Mr. Reed, please. I don't want them using you too."

He turned toward her with genuine tenderness. "Child, they've been using silence all night. That's why some of us finally need to speak." The remark made Maya look away. She had been prepared for hostility from one flight attendant. She had not been prepared for the sight of strangers risking embarrassment and official warnings simply to make sure she could eat.

Victoria picked up the unopened juice and handed it back toward Clare. "I don't want anything that's been part of this circus," she said. Lena stood as far as her belt allowed. "Then give it to the person who needs it."
