Clare hesitated. Ethan told everyone to settle down. While they were still arguing, Margaret unbuckled after the seat-belt sign went out, opened her tote, and produced a small sealed apple-juice box she had packed for her grandson.
"I have this," she said, her voice shaking. "It's unopened." Lena checked the label with Maya, confirmed the ingredients were suitable for the immediate need, and passed it to her. Maya had to steady the straw with both hands. She drank while Lena watched and spoke to her in a quiet, reassuring voice. The taste of ordinary apple juice was so welcome that Maya had to close her eyes to keep herself from crying.
"Thank you," she whispered. Margaret sat back and shook her head. "You shouldn't have had to ask so many times."
Paul, who had been silent all evening, put one hand over his wife's. "You did the right thing," he told her. She stared at the small empty space where the juice box had been. "I hope I didn't wait too long."
The crew continued insisting the situation had been exaggerated. Ethan repeated that Maya had been offered alternatives; Clare insisted the snack selection was limited. They did not explain why a passenger with a documented peanut allergy had been given peanuts, nor why a confirmed medical meal had been served to someone else despite repeated objections. Maya's strength was beginning to return as the juice took effect, but she still felt vulnerable and exhausted. Lena stayed nearby, checking on her rather than assuming that one drink resolved the entire medical issue.
For the first time, Maya looked directly at Victoria and asked, "You knew the meal had my name on it. Why did you keep eating?" Victoria lifted her chin. "I accepted a meal the airline gave me." Maya nodded.
"And when you heard it was medically reserved?" Victoria looked away. "I wasn't responsible for their catering mistake." Maya's reply came quietly. "You were responsible for what you did after you understood it."
Lena's first video was now uploading through the aircraft's Wi-Fi. The connection was slow and unpredictable, and she had edited the caption twice to avoid making claims the footage could not support. In the end, she kept it simple. Passenger in seat 1B had confirmed medical meal taken and served to another passenger. Crew threatened police after she documented it.
Nurse requested safe food and juice while passenger showed symptoms. The clip included the label, the attempted reconciliation form, and the peanut packet beside the printed confirmation.
Before pressing post, Lena turned to Maya. "I'm thinking of making this public. I don't want to add more stress without asking you."
Maya looked toward the galley where Ethan was still writing. She knew online attention could become cruel, inaccurate, and difficult to control. But she also knew that an internal report was being assembled at that very moment without allowing the witnesses to review it. "Post what you actually saw," she said. "Don't speculate about anything else."
