those containers during her earliest videos, when one sponsorship paid enough to buy groceries and we celebrated by ordering pizza. I felt grief rather than satisfaction. The brand had once been part of a future we imagined together. Watching it contract was another way of realizing that the future no longer existed.

I asked the friend not to send further screenshots unless they concerned a practical matter I genuinely needed to know. She apologized and said she had thought I would want to understand what was happening. I told her I appreciated her concern but that I had enough information to move forward. There was a difference between refusing to ignore reality and making somebody else's difficulties into a private entertainment feed. I did not want to cross it. I had spent too much time documenting facts to risk turning the habit into a way of keeping Jade at the center of every day.

By then Dana had told me she intended to speak with the gym's management. She had chosen a Wednesday morning when the manager would be present and the trainers would be between appointments. She also said she would be accompanied, though not necessarily by somebody who would enter with her, because her attorney had encouraged her to avoid an unnecessary confrontation. I wished her well and asked that she tell me only what directly concerned my circumstances. I was not planning to go to the gym. There was nothing I could accomplish there that I could not accomplish by staying away.

That Wednesday, I was at the fire station. We were conducting equipment checks, and I had a list of tasks that did not care what had happened in my personal life. A new firefighter was learning how to recognize wear in a piece of hose that looked fine at a glance. I was showing him the difference between a harmless surface mark and damage that required replacement when my phone vibrated against a nearby table. I glanced at the screen and saw a notification from Dana, then put it aside until the inspection was finished. I did not want to teach somebody that a private message was more important than the equipment another person might depend on during an emergency.

When I finally opened the message, it contained eight words. "Done. Folders with her attorney now. Everything documented. I read it twice.

The wording sounded like Dana, direct and restrained, and I understood that she had completed the action she had described at the coffee shop. I replied that I hoped she was safe and told her I did not need an immediate explanation. Several hours later she sent a longer account. She did not send a video or encourage me to distribute anything. She simply recorded what she had observed so there would be an accurate contemporaneous description while the details were fresh.
