“You brought them here?”
“I thought I lost them.”
“Thought?”
An engine growled somewhere in the alley.
Then another.
Tommy went pale.
Samantha’s fear sharpened into anger.
Not at the approaching men.
At Tommy.
“You brought this to the clubhouse.”
“I didn’t know where else to go.”
“Neither did I once.”
He looked at her.
She pointed toward the front room.
“Go get Wyatt.”
Tommy froze.
“No.”
“Tommy.”
“If he finds out—”
“He is going to find out.”
“You don’t understand.”
“I understand perfectly.”
Samantha stepped closer.
“You are frightened, you made a bad decision, and now you want the next bad decision to protect the first one.”
Tommy stared at her.
That sentence sounded as much like Reuben as it did Tommy.
Samantha heard it herself.
“Go get Wyatt.”
The rear door rattled.
Tommy’s face emptied.
Samantha grabbed the intercom button mounted near the shelf.
“Wyatt.”
No answer.
