“Do it.”

Reuben paused.

“Excuse me?”

“Make the call.”

The room became very quiet.

Grizzly continued.

“But make sure you say why.”

Reuben stared.

“Tell them you came here to collect a wife who has an attorney and asked you to leave.”

Grizzly nodded toward Samantha’s phone.

“Tell them there’s a recording.”

Then toward the ceiling.

“And tell them the front room has cameras.”

Reuben’s eyes flicked upward.

That was the first moment true uncertainty appeared.

Grizzly had not threatened him.

He had done something worse.

He had removed secrecy.

Samantha saw it too.

Reuben’s power had always depended on controlling which version of events survived.

Here, he could not.

Wyatt spoke.

“You came in alone?”

Reuben looked at him.

“That’s none of your concern.”

A motorcycle engine passed outside.

Reuben’s gaze shifted involuntarily toward the door.

Wyatt noticed.

“You hired somebody to find her.”

Reuben said nothing.

Samantha’s breathing changed.

“You had me followed?”

Reuben looked back at her.
