Samantha stepped back.
“Do not come behind here.”
Reuben continued.
“You’re coming with me.”
“No.”
He reached toward her wrist.
Before he touched her, Wyatt’s voice came from the dark hallway.
“She said no.”
Reuben stopped.
Wyatt stepped into view.
No leather vest.
Plain white T-shirt.
Work boots.
Nothing theatrical.
His eyes were enough.
Reuben straightened.
“This is a private marital matter.”
Wyatt approached slowly.
“Not in this building.”
Reuben smiled.
“You must be Wyatt.”
That made Wyatt stop.
Samantha’s stomach tightened.
Reuben continued.
“Yes. I know your name.”
“Good for you.”
“I know several names.”
“I’m sure you do.”
“I also know the police chief.”
Wyatt shrugged.
“Congratulations.”
Reuben’s composure cracked slightly.
“You think this is funny?”
