To Grizzly.
To Wyatt.
To Elena.
To the judge.
Eventually, to herself.
Wyatt opened the door behind her.
“You planning on standing out here all night?”
“No.”
“You’re letting the heat out.”
“It’s California.”
“It’s still cold.”
Samantha turned.
“Very sensitive for an outlaw.”
“Get inside.”
She stepped toward the door.
Then paused.
“Wyatt.”
“What?”
“Thank you.”
He looked uncomfortable instantly.
“Don’t start.”
“I mean it.”
“That’s worse.”
She smiled.
Wyatt held the door.
“You coming?”
Samantha looked once more at the street where she had arrived believing she had reached the end of every road available to her.
Then she stepped inside.
The steel door closed.
Not like a trap.
Like a boundary.
And for the first time in years, Samantha understood the difference.
